The Varen Story

Background in manufacturing

Varen was started by a 3rd generation in manufacturing lineage. The original goal was to provide a direct source within the U.S. that can be competitive on a world market. Our Grand Haven, Michigan facility has been producing goods and ideas for decades. The word "Varen" derives from the Dutch language for Navigate. Our compass rose logo is a symbol of our passion to never get lost in the journey. Our company policy is to work with the highest level of moral and ethical standard. The team under the Varen name is here to provide the very best in goods and services to all customers.

History

Beginnings

The need arises

Beginnings

Founded in 1971 by George S. VerDuin, Modern Methods Manufacturing occupied 5,000 sq/ft. of original floorspace in the Grand Haven facility. Screw Machining services were the primary offerings to Automotive industry. There was a need to produce and MMM made it happen.

Growth

The need arises

Beginnings

In 1986 George F. VerDuin took the helm at Modern Methods. The business grew to occupy 15,000 sq/ft. of floorspace with an even larger Automotive customer base. However, in 2002 Modern Methods closed it's manufacturing operations. The Screw Machine Industry was threatened by foreign manufacturing interests and low cost labor practices. The facility was all that remained.

The need arises

The need arises

The need arises

In 2021, James G. VerDuin founded Varen Manufacturing. The Varen idea was derived from the Covid Pandemic. The American supply chain reared an ugly face of non-availability when it was clearly needed most. It became evident that cheap outsourced foreign manufacturing makes our country vulnerable. It's believed that you can't make bombs in potato chip factories.
